Masters Ranch-West is a highly structured, Christian residential program for teenage boys age 13-18, located on the Snake River in Eastern Washington. This relationally oriented program is specifically designed to meet the needs of students and their families struggling with difficult challenges and life circumstances.
Students come to this program from all over America. This program is lower in cost, yet it boasts a gorgeous 400 acre campus surrounded by apple orchards in Southwestern Washington State. With 2 dormitories, cafeteria, school, administrative building, staff housing, football field, basketball court and much more, it is a campus designed specifically for helping struggling teens.
Students also enjoy agricultural activities including horsemanship, 4-H projects, irrigation & pasture management, ranch maintenance and animal husbandry. These activities offer time for staff to bond with and mentor the boys in an informal and fun setting.
Sports and Activities
Students at Masters Ranch-West can participate in soccer, football, basketball, track and baseball. Sports are available to those students that have worked hard in the program and have earned the opportunity by being academically in good-standing. On campus, there is basketball, golf driving range, skateboard park, high and low ropes course elements and many other physical activities.
Masters Ranch-West helps troubled teens to overcome their struggles and become healthy and happy young adults. The services offered at Masters Ranch-West focus on the development and support of education, vocational and spiritual growth.
The program offers a structured, positive learning environment that offers the benefits of more than thirty talented staff dedicated to helping young men gain the tools needed for success. The residential program integrates educational, spiritual, and personal growth curricula with vocational skill building activities, athletics, and community service learning projects. This integration, combined with a relationship-focused approach, provides full student engagement and results in demonstrated success. A team of counselors and other professional staff works with each student, creating an individualized development plan that outlines objectives and goals for the student’s success.
Masters Ranch-West offers a fully accredited academic program complete with advanced and college prep coursework. The vocational program includes woodworking, welding, horsemanship, culinary arts, and facilities management. This comprehensive programming with vocational training provides a life-changing opportunity to discover and create a more fulfilling lifestyle for students.
Masters Ranch-West provides a regularly scheduled formalized counseling session with each student. Regardless if the student’s struggles are major or minor, they each benefit from the individual mental health counseling as well as addiction counseling. Individual counseling focuses on improving the overall level of adaptive functioning in the areas of behavior, emotional expression, and interpersonal relationships. In addition, individual counseling takes on significant value in the resolution of issues and concerns that the student feels ill-prepared to address in the group sessions.
Group counseling is facilitated by Masters Ranch-West counselors several times a week. These intensive groups cover subjects including past trauma (PTSD), grief due to a lost loved one or abandonment, substance abuse addictions, electronic use, mental illness, leadership, spiritual development and emotional regulation. Additionally, each student is assigned to two other counseling and skill-building groups which specifically address relevant issues.
Experiential Based Counseling
Certified ropes course facilitators and recreational professionals the experiential based counseling sessions. Experiential based counseling uses activity-based experiences to teach life skills in areas such as relationships, communication, teamwork, self-esteem, self-awareness, accountability, and responsibility. Involving students in challenging and unpredictable tasks helps them think in new and creative ways about old problems. These activities are designed to identify what needs to be changed in a student’s life and relationships, and helps students to take the steps necessary to achieve success.
Family counseling occurs often, based on the needs of the family and the stage of the student’s course of treatment. Family counseling sessions usually occur over the phone, but parents are welcome to attend in person or via video conferencing (SKYPE). Masters Ranch-West counselors schedule family counseling sessions for each student. The family is also welcome to request family sessions as needed. These sessions provide the opportunity for families to work through sensitive issues together and to support each other in preventing relapse, and planning for reunification.
